I’m on a stage in my life in which I consider I can contribute to this blog much more than what I did in the past 9 months. A month ago I started BA Design programme at Goldsmiths, University of London. And I’m seeing, experimenting, and doing quite a lot of things I feel the need to communicate in a media other than EfectosSecundarios.

Also I’m thinking about using this blog as journal for my Techincal Studies subject in the programme, but I’d have to ask my tutors first.

So I’ll try from now on to be quite regular on publications rythm, or at least to post anything from time to time.

See ya!

Today evening I looked through my window, and what did I see?

I’m an alligator, I’m a mama-papa coming for you
I’m the space invader, I’ll be a rock ‘n’ rollin’ bitch for you
Keep your mouth shut, you’re squawking like a pink monkey bird
And I’m busting up my brains for the words

Keep your ‘lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Don’t fake it baby, lay the real thing on me
The church of man, love, is such a holy place to be
Make me baby, make me know you really care
Make me jump into the air

Keep your ‘lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Freak out, far out, in out
David Bowie - Moonage Daydream

Those who, like me, grew up playing that wonderful PC game developed by Maxis called The Sims, should remember that its characters used to talk in a strange language called Simglish. This curious idiom was invented by Will Wright, Maxis foundator and creator of all the Sim series, being inspired by th Navajo language employed as a code for encrypting USA Army’s transmissions during the Second World War. Simglish is origined to satisfy the need of having a dialog system between the Sims, without introducing repetitive, tedious and expensive English conversations, in a game in which social relationships are essential.

The “bad thing” comes when, like in everything on life, fundamentalisms appear. Surfing a bit through YouTube, you can find genuine “Learn Simglish without effort” lessons, and then thigs start to get perverted, with stuff like this…

The perversion achieves its critical point when famous people and superstars adopt it. Sounds incredible, but after the jump WMMSR is proud to present “Dulce Locura”, from La Oreja de Van Gogh, sung entirely by the original band.

Since I started, about 2 years ago with 3d modeling, one of my big inspirations were the jobs of Lithuanian designer Andrius Balciunas. When I first saw his modelings I became impressed by its realism and quality. The idea of creating a woman from zero was totally astonishing for me when I watched Shadow Conscious for the first time (click to zoom).

But his last creation was even more breathtaking. Here’s how Crow (2009) looks like.

Four years ago I got absolutely charmed by now decadent House, MD TV show. When I first watched it, it caught me special attraction its intro:

(seems like embedding has been disabled, so here’s the link)

The next season they changed the music and slightly th eimages showing:

Since then nothing has changed in the intro on the four consecutive seasons. Let’s see another example:

This is the intro for CBS sitcom How I met your mother. As you can see the font of the title is white roman roman. On season 2, it is substituted by a sans serif one:

And again, they never touched it again anymore. Why don’t they continue the evolution of the intros? Are they lazy enough not to make another one? Am I the only person who really cares?

Anyway, as an addendum for this post, I’ll put my favourite intro for a tv show. I swear it: I hate the sitcom and I think it’s awful… but the intro is great:

Tintin has always been my favourite graphic novel. Always. When I was around six my father (I know these days I’ve been talking about my infancy too much, sorry for that) handed me down his  entire collection of Herge’s books, and since then I think I have read them thousands of times.

Hergé (acronym for his two initials, G.R., Georges Remi) first created his world famous character Tintin in 1928, when he was working as the leader of belgian children magazine Le Petit Vingtieme, property of Le Vingtieme Siecle newspaper. Tintin’s first adventure consisted on an amazing journey to the Soviet Union. The weekly story had so much success that the newspaper simulated the arrival of  Tintin to Brussels at the its central train station. Its creator has been accused both of being nazist and antifascist, because of  Tintin books ideological connotations on  one way or another, and for continuing the production of stories during the Nazi occupation on th II World War.

The page you see above is one of those marvellous remembrances one has of his childhood. A page that has many times made me laugh, and which I consider deserves the title of best page of the comic history. Comes from1963 book “Les Bijoux de la Castafiore” (The Castafiore Emerald). Sorry for being in Spanish, but translating it would be spoiling it.
